NORTHRIDGE, CA Dec. 8, 2001
— When the first Edge Series CD was
released in October of 2000, users of the
award-winning SmartSound line of software
were treated to music that simply wasn't
available from any other royalty-free source.
Now that Sonic Desktop has released the
Edge Volume 3, the level has been set that
much higher.
"The goal of the Edge Series is
to produce music that is more current
than
what you can find through any other source,"
said Kevin Klingler, president and CEO
of Sonic Desktop. "Being in and from
Hollywood and LA we have a good idea of
what the trends
are in the music and film industry and
we're using that knowledge for this series."
Edge Volume 3 is a potent combination of
jagged electronic and soulful Top 40 tunes.
Reminiscent of latest techno-thriller movie
soundtracks, the Action Techno/Edge Groove
tracks drive with a dark energy that puts
people at the edge of their seat. Current
trends in Top 40 R&B are also represented
in cuts that capture the latest sounds from
today's popular, chart-busting artists.
"We're really breaking new ground
here," says Edge Series composer
Guy Moon. "I really dug deep to
get to the center of a musical sound
that is just
emerging and is driving Hollywood's most
spectacular special effects movies. Then
we have the R&B vocal cuts that match the
quality of some of radio's biggest hits."
Another exclusive feature of the Edge
Series is the separate "loop construction"
versions of the songs, which give the user
even more options when building a soundtrack.
Edge 3 is also the second disc to contain
songs with lyrics, which are also rearranged
to fit any soundtrack length.
So now that the first trilogy is done in
the Edge Series, what's next? There's certainly
no end in sight, according to Klingler.
"Trends in music are always changing,
so we'll always have to stay one step ahead
of the game," he says. "This is
certainly just the beginning for the Edge
Series."
